The Hokulea Crew represents the heart of the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS), a nonprofit organization committed to perpetuating the traditional Polynesian art of wayfinding and ocean exploration. Founded on the rich legacy of Pacific exploration, PVS uses non-instrument navigation to honor ancestral knowledge and inspire future generations.
From 2014-2017, the Hōkūleʻa and her sister canoe, Hikianalia, embarked on the historic Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage, promoting environmental stewardship and cultural preservation by connecting with 18 nations and stopping at UNESCO Marine World Heritage sites. In 2022, PVS set sail on the Moananuiākea Voyage, charting a course of 41,000 miles across the Pacific, visiting 345 ports and 46 countries, with the aim of uplifting indigenous knowledge and fostering global unity.
This dedicated crew embodies a commitment to exploration, education, and the preservation of Hawaii’s voyaging heritage.
