Support Local Hawaii is a Stewardship ʻOhana dedicated to serving Hawaii’s Culture, Communities, and Ecosystems.
OUR MISSION
Support Local Hawaii exists to strengthen and uplift Hawaiʻi through service to the land, the community, and the cultural heritage of the islands.
The purpose of this organization is service rather than profit.
The organization seeks to inspire actions that benefit:
- The Land, Ocean, and Ecosystems of Hawaiʻi
- Local Farmers, Artisans, and Small Businesses
- Cultural Traditions and ʻike passed through generations
- Resilient Communities rooted in cooperation and care
All activities undertaken through Support Local Hawaii are intended to create positive and lasting impact for Hawaiʻi and its people while encouraging wholistic stewardship of the islands.

ALOHA
Aloha reflects compassion, respect, humility, and the understanding that all life is interconnected.
KULEANA
Kuleana reminds us that each person carries responsibility to care for the well-being of community and land.
Mālama ʻĀina
The land and ocean sustain life. Stewardship of the ʻāina is a sacred responsibility.
Pono
The organization commits to acting with integrity, balance, and a sincere desire to do what is right.
ʻOhana
Community is strengthened through relationships of care, support, and shared purpose.
Aloha ʻĀina
Honoring the interconnectedness of all life and living in wholistic balance.
FOUNDATION
Support Local Hawaii is guided by two living Charters that define our purpose, values, and responsibilities in service to Hawaiʻi.
Together, they establish something larger than an organizational structure.
They establish kuleana.
Support Local Hawaii is still young. We are gathering founding members, developing our leadership and governance, and completing the formal structures intended to support this work far into the future.
We say that openly.
Because there is no contradiction between still building an organization and already doing its work.

We are in service.
Leadership will grow. Structures will evolve. People will come and go. Titles, boards, councils and the ways this organization carries its responsibilities may change many times in the decades ahead.
The kuleana remains.
Support Local Hawaii exists to serve Hawaii’s Culture, Communities, and Ecosystems—to recognize those caring for them, strengthen local relationships, preserve and share knowledge, create pathways for participation, and help turn Aloha into action.
That work has already begun.
And it does not depend upon recognition, status, applause, or any one person.
From the Founder
There is a reason you will not find my name or face at the center of Support Local Hawaii.
I don’t want them there.
Not because I am unwilling to stand behind what is being built. I do.
And not because I am unwilling to accept responsibility for it. I am.
I have simply never believed this story should be about me.
I saw that I had certain gifts—the ability to build, connect, create, communicate, see possibilities, and sometimes bring pieces together that might otherwise never meet.
And I had to decide what to do with them.
This is how I chose to give them away.
To Hawaiʻi.
To the place I love so deeply with all of my heart.
To people doing good work who deserve to be seen.
To farmers growing food.
To cultural practitioners carrying knowledge.
To people protecting waters, ecosystems and communities.
To small businesses keeping families working.
To volunteers who show up when someone needs them.
To Stewards whose names may never become widely known, but whose actions leave Hawaiʻi better than they found it.
Those are the people I want you looking at.
Not me.
There is an old story about someone walking a beach covered with stranded starfish, picking them up one at a time and returning them to the ocean.
Someone looking at the enormous beach asks what difference one person could possibly make.
The answer is found in the next starfish returned to the water.
That idea has stayed with me.
Because Support Local Hawaii was never supposed to be about how many people were watching.
It was always about the starfish.
And eventually I realized something else:
The purpose isn’t to spend forever being the only person walking the beach.
It is to help people realize they have hands, too.
That is the movement I hope Support Local Hawaii becomes.
Not followers of a founder.
Stewards standing beside one another.
People discovering that whatever they have—a skill, an hour, a story, a business, a garden, a voice, a pair of hands—can become something they give in service to the place they love.
I do not need Support Local Hawaii to preserve my name.
I want it to preserve the invitation:
Care about something.
Choose something you can do.
And begin.
As this organization continues to grow, it should never be possible to point to any one person and say, “There. That’s Support Local Hawaii”.
Instead, I hope you can look across these islands and see it everywhere.
There.
And there.
And there, too.
A farmer. A teacher. A musician. A fisherman. A cultural practitioner. A business owner. A volunteer.
A family. A child picking up something from the beach because someone taught them that the place beneath their feet deserves their care.
A family planting native ʻiliahi—Hawaiian sandalwood—on the slopes of Mauna Kea, restoring the ʻāina and helping grow a native forest for generations to come.
That is the picture I want to be in.
And I don’t need to be visible in it.
