Connecting Farms, Food, & ʻOhana Across Hawaiʻi Island

Kohala Food Hub is a nonprofit enterprise dedicated to strengthening Hawaiʻi Island’s food system. Born in 2019 under HIP Agriculture and now an autonomous nonprofit under Feed Hawaiʻi, Kohala Food Hub provides infrastructure, market access, and support to local producers—while making fresh, healthy food accessible to their community.

What They Do

  • Support for Local Producers: Starting with just 12 producers, Kohala Food Hub now works with 150+ farmers, backyard growers, and food makers across Hawaiʻi Island.
  • Market & Distribution Infrastructure: They manage an online marketplace with 400+ product offerings, serving 2,000+ customers, with 8 pickup spots and 2 delivery routes.
  • Economic Growth & Impact: Their revenue has grown from $30,000 in 2019 to $920,000 in 2024, fueling local agricultural economy and resilient food pathways.
  • Bridging Barriers: In rural areas like Kohala, challenges of transport, internet connectivity, and affordability often limit access. Kohala Food Hub steps in to bridge those gaps, ensuring that local produce finds markets and that communities can access fresh food.

Why We Highlight Them

Kohala Food Hub is a beacon for what a food sovereign, community‑centered Hawaiʻi can look like. They aren’t just a marketplace—they are an ecosystem builder, infrastructure provider, and advocate for local producers who often carry the heaviest burdens in our food chain.

By featuring Kohala Food Hub, Support Local Hawaii amplifies a model of real food justice, regenerative economics, and local resilience.
